What is health surveillance?

Health surveillance is collecting and using information about workers’ health, related to the substances they use and work activities they perform.

• It helps prevent Asthma developing by detecting the early signs of the disease through respiratory health surveillance and questionnaire (testing lung function)
• It helps prevent noise induced hearing loss by detecting early signs of deterioration in hearing through audiometric surveillance and questionnaire (hearing tests)
• It helps prevent Dermatitis by detecting early signs of poor skin condition from skin surveillance/examination and questionnaire (skin hydration monitoring)
• It helps prevent hand arm vibration syndrome by detecting early signs of vascular (circulatory) and sensorineural (nerve) impairment in the fingers and hands from HAVS surveillance and questionnaire (grip strength measurements, blood pressure, pulse)
• It helps prevent work related upper limb disorders by detecting early signs of vascular (circulatory), sensorineural (nerve) and muscular impairment in the neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, hands and fingers from surveillance and questionnaire (grip strength measurements, blood pressure, pulse)
